In 2006 the Shire was vested an old derelict building that had not been in use for the past 14 years. It had initially been a building for youth orientated activities such as Scouts and Guides which drove the the vision for the space to become a local Youth Centre. The Shire’s then Economic Development Officer, in conjunction with the Morawa Youth Coordinating Network, which is made of key stakeholders in the town, prepared a grant application to Lotterywest to be able to renovate the old building as a youth specific space. The Shire was successful in securing a generous sponsorship from Lotterywest and the Project began in 2008.

The Centre was completed in August 2009 and was officially opened on the 21st of August 2009. Since its opening it has been well patronized by the local youth and youth from surrounding areas. It has  given the youth of the community a space that is specifically for them and as such, to date, they have respected the building and its facilities. The Centre is usually open during the school holidays where there are structured activities run. The Morawa Youth Centre is provided by the Shire of Morawa as a free community service.
