Statement from the Deputy Shire President

On behalf of the Councillors of the Shire of Morawa, I congratulate our Shire President Cr Karen Chappel, on being elected to the position of President of the Western Australian Local Government Association ( WALGA) at the State Council meeting on Wednesday, 2 March 2022.

Cr Chappel has been Shire President for nearly 13 years, has presided over the WALGA Northern Country Zone and represented our region at the WALGA State Council since 2011, and we are confident she will provide exceptional leadership in her new role advocating on behalf of Local Governments across the State. As a Council we know Karen has never wavered in her commitment to Morawa and the needs of our community and we are honoured to have a Morawa representative undertaking this important role and we wish her all the best for the next two years.

Cr Ken Stokes

Deputy Shire President
