Youth Centre History

In 2006 the Shire of Morawa was vested an old derelict building that had not been in use for over 14 years. It had initially been a building for youth orientated activities such as Scouts and Guides which consequently drove the vision for the space to become a local Youth Centre.

The Shire’s then Economic Development Officer collaborated with the Morawa Youth Coordinating Network, which consisted of key stakeholders in Morawa. Together they prepared a grant application to Lotterywest to renovate the old building as a youth specific space. The Shire was successful in securing a generous sponsorship from Lotterywest and the Project began in 2008.

The Morawa Youth Centre was completed in August 2009 and it was officially opened on the 21st of August 2009. Since its opening it  has been well patronized by the local youth as well as from youth across the surrounding areas. It has given the youth of the community a space that is specifically for them. Historically the Youth Centre has opned predominantly during the school holidays where structured school holiday programs and activities have been run.

Starting in January 2019, the Morawa Youth Centre will be re-opening for a “Summer Holiday Program”. Following on from this program, the Centre will then stay open for drop-in sessions after school hours and potentially opening some weekends! With the help of a team of volunteers we can keep the Youth Centre open and alive!

The Morawa Youth Centre and our youth programs are provided by the Shire of Morawa as a free community service.
