In August 2024, the Shire of Morawa is set to host the Morawa Art Awards and Exhibition once again. This 10-day showcase at the Morawa Town Hall will spotlight the diverse artistic talents of local and interstate artists.
Following the success of the 8th Biennial Art Awards & Exhibition in 2022, which featured over 130 participating artists, the event solidified its position as one of the Mid West region's largest and most vibrant visual arts displays. The Shire of Morawa aims for the 9th exhibition to build on this success, attracting a broad range of entries across multiple categories. For a recap of the 2022 Awards and a list of category winners, scroll further down the page.
In 2024, the Morawa Art Awards and Exhibition will be professionally curated, offering a substantial prize pool of $20,000, including the prestigious Shire of Morawa Acquisitive Award with a $7,500 prize. Submissions of original and new works (post-2022) are welcomed from both local and Western Australian artists.
Categories include:
- Works on Paper
- Works on Canvas
- Three Dimensional Artwork
- Mixed Media
- The Tony Tropiano Photography Award
- Young Art (5-12) &
- Youth Art (13-18)
The Awards will also feature special recognitions like the Mid West Indigenous Prize (Acquisitive) and the Best Local Artwork award. These awards aim to support and foster artistic talent within the local community.
To facilitate participation, a convenient drop-off and collection point for artwork is available in both the Perth Metro area and Geraldton, with complimentary professional transport for artworks to and from the exhibition.

Art & Photography Workshops
The Shire of Morawa welcomed support from Tourism WA through the Regional Events Scheme who provided funding towards the Art Exhibition and enabled the Shire to host two Art workshops held in conjunction with the event.
A photography workshop and tour with well known photographer Tony Tropiano took participants on an adventure across some of the regions most picturesque and Instagram-worthy local wildflower hotspots and landscapes while an evening workshop with Award Winning artist Loretta Egan will taught artists dot painting techniques and an opportunity to learn the stories behind Loretta’s art.
The 2022 Morawa Art Awards and Exhibition was supported by the State Government through Tourism Western Australia and Royalties for Regions.
The Shire of Morawa would like to sincerely thank our event sponsors:
The Government of Western Australia, QUBE Logistics, Karara Mining, The Hon. Steve Martin MLC, Member for the Agricultural Region and the Hon Melissa Price MP, Federal Member for Durack.
