Koolanooka Springs
Located just 28km from Morawa Koolanooka Springs is the perfect place to stop for a picnic, featuring rustic wood BBQ facilities (please bring your own firewood) and toilet amenities. Visit during wildflower season, from July to October, to experience stunning carpets of yellow, white, and pink everlastings blanketing the landscape.
Take a hike to the top of Koolanooka Hill for breathtaking views across the surrounding countryside, and after rainfall, keep an eye out for the tadpoles that call the springs home.
Steeped in history, Koolanooka Springs once provided water for the early settlers of the region. The name “Koolanooka” is believed to come from an Aboriginal word meaning “place of plenty wild turkeys.” While wild turkey sightings are now rare, the area remains a peaceful and picturesque destination to enjoy a picnic, explore the abundant wildflowers, and take in the beauty of outback Western Australia.
A scenic outlook can also be enjoyed by climbing the striking ironstone formations surrounding the spring.
Please remember that wildflowers grow naturally, and the quality of the blooms will vary each year depending on seasonal rainfall. We also ask that you do not pick the flowers, so they can be enjoyed by all visitors for years to come.
Koolanooka Springs is accessible via gravel roads suitable for 2WD vehicles, however a 4WD is recommended, particularly during wet conditions.
Please remember to check the Latest News section on our website or our Facebook page for current fire restrictions and unsealed road closures before travelling.
