Differential Rates
In accordance with Section 6.36 of the Local Government Act 1995, the Shire of Morawa hereby gives local public notice of its intention to impose Differential Rates and Minimum Payments for the forthcoming 2026-2027 financial year.
This notice outlines the objects and reasons for each proposed differential rate and minimum payment, as required under Section 6.36(3)(c) of the Act, and is available for public inspection.
To reflect the diverse land zoning and land uses across the Shire, and to ensure rates are applied in a fair and equitable manner, Council utilises a differential rating system. The Shire of Morawa is divided into three rating categories:
- Gross Rental Value (GRV) Residential/Commercial
- Unimproved Value (UV) Rural
- Unimproved Value (UV) Mining
The proposed rates are intended to provide the net funding required to support Council’s budgeted expenditure, after accounting for all other sources of revenue. In setting the proposed rates, Council is also mindful of the impact and affordability of rates on the community.
A statement detailing the Objectives and Reasons for each proposed rate can be viewed here Statement of Objectives & Reasons 2026-2027

All submissions must be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Shire of Morawa, PO Box 14, Morawa WA 6623 by electors or ratepayers in respect of the intention to Levy Differential Rates may be made to Council
within twenty-one (21) days of this notice and close at 9am Tuesday 23rd June 2026.
