Solomon Terrace Community Precinct Masterplan

The Solomon Terrace Public Open Space covers the area on Solomon Terrace from Club Road to Stokes Road, encompassing Prater Park and Lions Park as existing features. This space of approximately 2.9 hectares is heavily under-utilised given its central location and connector between the East and West side of town via the rail crossing.

To align with the vision to create a welcoming, inclusive, and liveable Morawa, the Shire has undertaken a community engagement and master planning process to develop a plan for this key community space.

A pop-up community engagement session was held with the Shire’s consultants in February 2023 with Pizza and Music attracting community members to the space to discuss its future. With over 50 people providing inputs utilising information posterboards, dotmocracy image boards, interactive mapping, and open conversation, a number of strong themes and goals for the space were identified.

Overall, there was unanimous support for the enhancement of the Solomon Terrace public open space to create an inviting and family friendly Community Precinct.

The community inputs centred around liveability amenity with a strong desire for:

  • Communal spaces
  • Play and active spaces
  • Natural elements
  • Bike racks and other park amenities
  • Safety of users and passers through
  • Shade and shelter from the elements

Over the last 3 months the Shire has worked with its consultants to create a draft Masterplan for the Solomon Terrace Community Precinct that provides a high-level overview as to what may be achieved in the space, subject to resources and funding.

The Shire is once again looking to engage the community on the draft masterplan to see if it is fit for purpose and in line with the community’s vision for the space.

The Vision for the Solomon Terrace Community Precinct has been identified as:

To create a vibrant and engaging place in the heart of Morawa for the people of Morawa. A central place where people from all ages can connect, hang out, and enjoy the many experiences on offer. A safe place for everyone to come to and enjoy time and time again.
