MEDIA RELEASE – NAIDOC WEEK

After not being able to have any NAIDOC events in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions, and the devastating effect of Tropical Cyclone Seroja, the theme for this year’s NAIDOC Week, “Heal Country!” is already resonating in our region.

Morawa Shire President, Cr. Karen Chappel stated “that it will be fantastic to see the return of the NAIDOC event in 2021, and that it represents one of the most significant events in Morawa’s calendar. It is always a privilege to participate in this event and it is with great pride that Morawa plays a leading role in sharing the Mid-West’s Indigenous Culture”

Midwest residents are invited to celebrate our Indigenous heritage and culture at the Midwest NAIDOC event on Wednesday 21 July in Morawa.

The Midwest NAIDOC event is held annually in the first week of Term 3, so that school students from around the region can observe and celebrate the meaning of NAIDOC.

The schools in attendance at this year’s Midwest NAIDOC are: Mingenew Primary School, Coorow Primary School, Eneabba Primary School, Perenjori Primary School, Yalgoo Primary School, Mullewa DHS, Morawa DHS, and WA College of Agriculture.

There will be guest speakers, performances by Red Ochre, and a number of stalls and activities for all to enjoy
